Maybe I should get a cell phone. Today it would have saved me most of a trip to Squirrel Hill for an appointment that got bumped by an emergency. :-(

J2ME = Java 2 Micro Edition.
Ah. So if you don't want the phone service anyway, why not just get a PDA instead? (I'm blithely assuming that at least some of them support Java by now...)

Oh, sure, there are Java implementations for the Palm OS. But for work it's necessary to test on an actual cell phone.
