Some things are just wrong.

While I was in the restroom a few minutes ago, I heard two sounds from the stall next to mine. One was the, um, usual and customary sound that eminates from a rest-room stall.

The other was the voice of the producer of those sounds, talking on a cell phone. The conversation made it obvious that she was talking with a person in real time.

Cell-phone manners have degraded even more than I had thought.

Miss Manners commented recently on what to do when you find yourself in telephone conversation with someone who is about to flush. Her recommendation: "I can tell you're busy; I'll call later."

Cordless etiquette

Well, I'm tempted to say "Cellphones are Evil", but we all know what happened last time I said that. And, in fact, the problem of phones in bathrooms is something that's not limited to cellphones -- I have a friend who I talk to sometimes, and who has a cordless, hands-free (normal) phone. We've worked out a rule: Talking in the bathroom is fine, doing stuff in the bathroom while talking is OK, as long as everything is above the belt. So combing one's hair is OK, as is even brushing one's teeth (if the other person doesn't mind), but stuff, er, below the belt isn't. It works for us, and we're close enough friends that we deal... but it's not a public toilet we're talking about.

I feel odd here

I don't have a problem with that lady.

I've gotten to the point where I don't give a gnat's ass about what other folks do in private places as long as I am not firsthand involved in it.

Maybe I've been living in California too long....
