Date: 2002-05-07 08:11 pm (UTC)What you do, is realize that every now and then, people like that get what they deserve and then you treasure and remember the moments... I was running in a road race. Let me emphasize that, r-u-n-n-i-n-g. Left foot, right foot, repeat, etc. The race was on a college campus *that was closed for the race* This had been advertised weeks in advance. Sign boards up at all the entrances. I was coming up to a campus entrance. There was a cop leaning against his patrol car in the entrance way to keep people out. A car comes up. The cop moves his arm in a circle and points back out the entrance to indicate he has to turn around and leave. I repeat, THE COP did this. Does the driver obey the traffic cop? No! Obviously, the cop didn't understand the driver was in a hurry to get to a campus building that was probably closed. He jumped the curb, drove up on the lawn, around the cop car, and floored it to get through the space between me and the runner ahead of me before the gap closed. Have you ever heard a police siren up close? The cop had reached in his car to start it. When the idiot stopped at the sound, the officer then pointed to the curb. I was in no danger of winning the race, so I took a moment to stop, bow and tip my imaginary hat to the officer. He said "My pleasure, believe me, it's my pleasure." and then he reached into his car for his ticket book while I continued my run. :
