Saturday at an SCA event there's going to be an award scroll in Hebrew, and the heralds asked me if I would read it in court. I just got the text via email. (Well, Yaakov faxed it to the calligrapher, who scanned it and emailed it to me.) It looks lovely. Just one hitch: I desperately hope that I can get the vowel pointing from Yaakov before sundown tonight, when Shavuot starts and he won't answer the phone. I guess the calligraphy is being done without vowels -- that's not unusual -- but I'm not fluent and I don't know how to pronounce most of these words without the vowels being written in. And I really don't want to screw this up.

I sent email and I left a message for him at home (he's at work). I hope he gets one of those messages in time to respond. I need 10 minutes of his time while he reads to me over the phone and I write down vowels...

(As a backup, if anyone reading this is fluent and would be willing to mark up a text today, please let me know. Not that I think it's likely.)

Update (5pm): problem solved.
