Embla has lousy luck with contractors, it seems. A few years ago, a contractor who was replacing a bathroom floor (previous house) trapped her in a wall. Tonight, we found that a contractor who is ripping up carpet on our third floor and finishing/painting the floors probably trapped her in a crawl space. (I say "probably" because I did not actually see her emerge. But she didn't come for dinner, and I couldn't find her, and we finally got the furniture that was blocking the door moved out of the way so we could open the door, and sometime later we saw her and she was more skittish than usual.)

I guess I should consider myself lucky that no contractor has yet let her get out of the house. But still...

Knowing her, she was probably just trying to stay out of the way -- and was a bit too successful. Poor thing. Not that she's suffered any real damage, of course; I probably took more damage than she did, especially the first time when it took a while to figure out what had happened. (There was misleading evidence to suggest that she had gotten out of the house.)
