Embla has lousy luck with contractors, it seems. A few years ago, a contractor who was replacing a bathroom floor (previous house) trapped her in a wall. Tonight, we found that a contractor who is ripping up carpet on our third floor and finishing/painting the floors probably trapped her in a crawl space. (I say "probably" because I did not actually see her emerge. But she didn't come for dinner, and I couldn't find her, and we finally got the furniture that was blocking the door moved out of the way so we could open the door, and sometime later we saw her and she was more skittish than usual.)

I guess I should consider myself lucky that no contractor has yet let her get out of the house. But still...

I'm sorry, I read the beginning of that, and was getting images of Countess Embla trapped in a wall, which was very strange indeed...

Countess Embla, presumably, would be smart enough, and capable enough, to make some appropriate noise, like "Hey, contractor! Aren't you forgetting about something?".
