meme (who are you?)
Stolen shamelessly from half the people on my friends list, it seems:
If I'm on your friends list, how do you know me? (I know that in some cases it's obvious.)
Also, if you feel like it, please give a tiny little blurb about yourself. Tell me where you're from, what you're interested in, a little relevant information like that.
This includes people reading this who don't have LJ accounts; I'm told some of you are out there. :-)

Were you Sharon Kerick's roommate in the '81-'82 school year? Or did you just live on 3A? I was in the 5A lounge when I got to CMU & eventually was moved to Woodlawn [before all the shit hit the fan, but that's another mess].
I remember the next year you were the Tartan editor. I remember suggesting to you that publishing info from campus police about stuff that'd been going on around campus might be interesting, but you didn't want to do it. Now the Crime & Incident report is the best loved part of the paper :-P.
And then there was that year's Natrat.... Wanted: one darkroom editor. Must be celibate. Preference given to eunichs or monks.
About me? I grew up on Lon G'island, I came to Pittsburgh in 1981, and except for 9 months back on the G'island due to illness have pretty much been here ever since. I'm interested in morphine. Mmmmm morphine.

Odd; I don't remember either of the Tartan memories you mentioned. They say that memory is the second thing to go, but I can't remember the first. :-) I wonder why I wouldn't have wanted to print the crime & incident report; that usually makes for good reading, especially on college campuses.

The SCA. We met years and years ago and you were one of the first people to welcome me back when I returned back to the Barony from the Evil that is Washington, D.C.

Speaking of long time in the SCA -- my sweetie is getting a Pelican this summer! (Yes, he knows. I'm not betraying the secret by posting this entry. The Crown will be giving him a writ at Crown Tourney, and the elevation will be at Royal Champions of Arms.)
Road Trip!

It would be terrific to see you!!

Tiny blurb...
I'm from Cortland, NY which is about 20 miles south of Syracuse. Science fiction, fiber arts, hamsters, the SCA, and a ton of other stuff. I do to much. I have a rather large, mixed up, and complex family... so much so that friends who have met the family ask for relationship charts. I met my husband over the internet when I was 18 and it was love at first sight. I am scared of latex balloons. I can't do nothing.

Lemmings:)
I dont know you:) Well I have heard your name for years.
Your journal came recommended to me by Ealdthryth and Alienor who thought Id enjoy your views on SCA, Politics and Religion. Which I do.
Also, if you feel like it, please give a tiny little blurb about yourself. Tell me where you're from, what you're interested in, a little relevant information like that.
My SCA name is Muirgheal inghean ui Ogain, I am from Nottinghill Coill in Southern Atlantia, mundanely Greenville SC. Im 28, married and have a 5 year old son. Im in the SCA mainly for the clothes:) I work as a bookkeper in my church and I hate it because I have seen a view of my church that has seriously messed up the rest of it for me.
Re: Lemmings:)
Which clothes? (Which period?)
Re: Lemmings:)
Im not crazy about Middle eastern unless its done exceptionaly well (which we dont see much of in these parts)
Im particular to tudor and coteharties though:)
I just love the clothes . .

Hmmm, tiny blurb about me - I spend most of my time on the SCA but I am trying to take at least part of my life back. I will be at Pennsic and would love to actually meet you in person.

About me... a musically inclined SCAdian, living in Atlantia (South Carolina) and working on my master's in Materials Science & Engineering. Interests recently have been music (mostly recorders and vocal), feeling more "medieval" at events, and working to better understand myself both mentally and physically.

Did we meet on the Rialto? I know that I got to know Dani there (there was a period when he, Arval and I accounted for something like half the volume between us), but I don't actually remember when and where we first got to know each other. Might well have been the Rialto, but I'm not sure...
(I think I actually found you on LJ through
Who I am: loudmouth philosopher from Carolingia/East Kingdom/SCA. Technically a dance Laurel, but spending at least as much time on games these days. Hardcore Internet user since 1987, doing it professionally since about 1993, mostly developing various forms of socially-oriented tools. Also active in Freemasonry, LARP, and a bit with SF cons.

I remember noticing you on the Rialto; whether you noticed me then I couldn't say. I was not as prolific as you, Arval, and Dani, so I was probably easy to miss. :-) But I've been a fan of your writing (and thinking) for a while.

We originally met through the SCA dance practices, circa 1986. I've been one of your deputy chroniclers, had a temp job with the QA team for one of your previous jobs, we've sung and/or played instruments together more times than I can count, and we've been in the same Pennsic encampment since well before the Polyhymnia camp/subcamp ever came together (has it been every Pennsic I've been to? I think there might have been one or two early on...).

I'm an adopted Pittsburgher, having lived here since I started at CMU in 1985 (prior to that my family moved several times, so "putting down roots" has been a comparatively recent development.) I'm a software developer. I like science fiction, armchair sociology, and long walks on the beach. Just north of Lisbon, perhaps.
"Christof the Pathfinder" (my SCA persona) is a Bavarian student in a university town somewhere in the Italian north ("Cour d'Or" is an Italian hill town, right? :-)) I've occupied various petty bureacracies at the Baronial and Kingdom levels. I had the good fortune to go to Rowany Festival in Lochac a year ago for their first Crown Tourney.

Seabhac dragged you in from the hall, as I recall. :-)

I'm from Palo Alto CA, a CMU alum, interested in (among other things) history, sociology, assorted geek topics, music, beaches, and having my cake and eating it too. Currently employed as a programmer, and still trying to decide whether I enjoy it enough to stick with it as a long-term career, or whether I should shift to something like law.

Tiny blurb about me: Cute(although I hate being called that), 28, new to the SCA, engaged, loves katts, loves religious discussions, being obtuse, LJ and oh yeah I'm an engineer (talk about not defining yourself by your profession). I'm originally from Montreal (yes I'm French Canadian) but now live on the wet coast of Vancouver (very wet today - scared for the weekend's camping event...). Suffers from an over-use of ellipses and parentheses. Oh and I adore the fact that we can have discussions about grammar... So I guess that makes me a geek of some sort as well... Oh and I like bears with bunny ears hats.. especially when the said hat comes off and can be put on certain kitties...

How do you know me?
We met from both attending fight practice at CMU - I think it was summer of '81 or '82. You fought, I hung out. We becaome closer friends when you were Chronicler and I was an extra set of hands for 4 years. Both of us are original members of the Debatable choir. We combined camping situations at Pennsic 21 or 22 - your group of friends, my land connections. Due to this, each of us calls the other the one who started the camp. We tried out services together when you became interested in Judaism, and I took you to lunch to celebrate your conversion. I was your attendant at your wedding. You're going to teach me how to do simple illumination.
I couldn't think of what to write about myself. Ummm I like music, taking pictures, sewing and other needle arts, travelling, and good friends. The SCA gives ample opportunity for all of the above, which is why I'm still here.

Re: Meme response
Typing was easy, but at the time I didn't know what an editor was, being incredibly computer-illiterate. Still am a little (note lack of user pics). I had forgotten about the time I did the paste up 'cause you were sick. IIRC, my job by that time was doing the pictures and page numbers. It was a good education in putting out a newsletter.
There was only 1 meeting that I missed: you held the Sept. meeting on Yom Kippur one year and we were doing a break-fast.
Re: Meme response
Sometimes my lack of pigeon-holing tendencies gets in the way and I forget that titles can be useful. IIRC, I had titles for people whose contact info I needed to publish, just so folks who know whom to bother with what. (I had a deputy for local groups; I don't recall if I had a second named one.)
One missed meeting: oh yes; I remember now. Also known as "Monica gets a simultaneous education in the Jewish calendar and politeness". I'm sorry about that; I screwed up your track record.

I'm originally from Leicester, England (moved when I was 7). I now live in upstate South Carolina with my husband of 5 years and my 17 year old cat Minerva. My main SCA interest is 12th century England. I also dabble in other areas. I have lots of varied interests outside the SCA. Unitarian Universalism and other religions, alternative healing, and deep ecology are a few of them. Career-wise, I am an unemployed computer programmer.

Stock answer to nearly everybody whose blog I'm answering in: We met in the SCA.
Additional reply: I'm trying to remember exactly how *long* we've known each other. I joined the SCA at Hasdrubal & Amber's coronation. You maybe the first non-Rhydderich Hael Scadian I made friends with. So, I think we've been friends less than 19 years but more than 15. Can you narrow it any further?
Also, if you feel like it, please give a tiny little blurb about yourself. Tell me where you're from, what you're interested in, a little relevant information like that.
Stock answer: I'm a computer programmer/web designer who has been doing it for so long that I can remember writing computer programs on punch cards and papertape! (I'm NOT kidding!) Originally from Buffalo, New York, I now live in Fredonia, about 60 miles southwest of Buffalo, in a 130 year old Victorian farmhouse on six acres with my wife and a kindle of cats. I can't imagine living anywhere else right now. My interests are variable and subject to change with time. They are currently: juggling; puppetry; SCA; SF; writing fiction, non-fiction, and poetry; letterboxing. Feel free to ask additional questions.
