meme (who are you?)

Stolen shamelessly from half the people on my friends list, it seems:

If I'm on your friends list, how do you know me? (I know that in some cases it's obvious.)

Also, if you feel like it, please give a tiny little blurb about yourself. Tell me where you're from, what you're interested in, a little relevant information like that.

This includes people reading this who don't have LJ accounts; I'm told some of you are out there. :-)

Humorously [at least to me], I've been trying to remember just this fact.

Were you Sharon Kerick's roommate in the '81-'82 school year? Or did you just live on 3A? I was in the 5A lounge when I got to CMU & eventually was moved to Woodlawn [before all the shit hit the fan, but that's another mess].

I remember the next year you were the Tartan editor. I remember suggesting to you that publishing info from campus police about stuff that'd been going on around campus might be interesting, but you didn't want to do it. Now the Crime & Incident report is the best loved part of the paper :-P.

And then there was that year's Natrat.... Wanted: one darkroom editor. Must be celibate. Preference given to eunichs or monks.

About me? I grew up on Lon G'island, I came to Pittsburgh in 1981, and except for 9 months back on the G'island due to illness have pretty much been here ever since. I'm interested in morphine. Mmmmm morphine.

The SCA. We met years and years ago and you were one of the first people to welcome me back when I returned back to the Barony from the Evil that is Washington, D.C.

Also, if you feel like it, please give a tiny little blurb about yourself. Tell me where you're from, what you're interested in, a little relevant information like that.
Tall, brunette fencergirl. Works in Telecommunications as a Regulatory Compliance Auditor. Able to leap small chairs in a single bound.

I'm Tasha Medvedeva in the SCA; I first became aware of you on (I believe) the EK email list. Then [livejournal.com profile] alienor had a link to one of your entries on her journal (and I think I picked up her journal on the [livejournal.com profile] sca community), and I thought your journal was interesting.

Lessee... about me... I'm 34, live in northern Masaschusetts with my fiance [livejournal.com profile] darkwolfie and our cat Mathilde. (http://tasha.gallowglass.org/images/mathilde.jpg) I'm a temp with useless degrees who lusts after a master's in Information and Library Science. I love playing with string (knitting, braiding, embroidery, etc), making string (spinning), sewing, bascially textile stuffs. I want a spinning wheel and a loom. A bigger house to with them wouldn't be bad, but I'm not greedy. :-) In the SCA, I am apprentice/protege/minion to Duchess Anna Ophelia Holloway Tarragon, who tries her best to keep me from pissing off too many people while I go about my business, which is either heralding or being Deputy Guildmistress of the Worshipful Company of Narrowworkers.

Golly, I oughta copy and save that; that's pretty good.

How long have we known each other in the SCA? Well over a decade (the Crisis was almost a decade ago!). We probably met some time around 1989 when I took my first Kingdom office. Haven't seen much of you lately -- you're so far away, and now we're officially not in the same kingdom.

[identity profile] msmemory.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, we're coming to Pennsic. We'll be camping for the second time with House Lochleven, on Tuchux Hill, who have invited us to be their guests.

Speaking of long time in the SCA -- my sweetie is getting a Pelican this summer! (Yes, he knows. I'm not betraying the secret by posting this entry. The Crown will be giving him a writ at Crown Tourney, and the elevation will be at Royal Champions of Arms.)

Road Trip!

This is awesome. When and where is the Royal Champions of Arms?

June 21, in the Shire of Smoking Rocks (i.e. Cape Cod, Massachusetts). On the EK Events page, it is also titled "Vinland Raids."

It would be terrific to see you!!

I found you through another LJer's friends list. I think it was [livejournal.com profile] fiannaharper. Some day I would love to meet you in person.

Tiny blurb...

I'm from Cortland, NY which is about 20 miles south of Syracuse. Science fiction, fiber arts, hamsters, the SCA, and a ton of other stuff. I do to much. I have a rather large, mixed up, and complex family... so much so that friends who have met the family ask for relationship charts. I met my husband over the internet when I was 18 and it was love at first sight. I am scared of latex balloons. I can't do nothing.

[identity profile] chite.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
I know you from the SCA. Gosh it's been years. I think we probably met at dance practice when I was dancing and you were playing.

Lynne is a professional writer who grew up in New York City and now lives in Alexandria, Virginia. She lives with her fiancee and 4 cats and enjoys biking, watching Joss Whedon television shows, and being a Mary Kay consultant. She is currently trying not to go crazy about her wedding.

[identity profile] tashabear.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
You can join [livejournal.com profile] weddingplans and watch other people go crazy. For me, it's like watching Springer... I look at it and say to myself, "Thank God that's not me!"

If I'm on your friends list, how do you know me?

I dont know you:) Well I have heard your name for years.
Your journal came recommended to me by Ealdthryth and Alienor who thought Id enjoy your views on SCA, Politics and Religion. Which I do.
Also, if you feel like it, please give a tiny little blurb about yourself. Tell me where you're from, what you're interested in, a little relevant information like that.
My SCA name is Muirgheal inghean ui Ogain, I am from Nottinghill Coill in Southern Atlantia, mundanely Greenville SC. Im 28, married and have a 5 year old son. Im in the SCA mainly for the clothes:) I work as a bookkeper in my church and I hate it because I have seen a view of my church that has seriously messed up the rest of it for me.

Re: Lemmings:)

[identity profile] bantiarna.livejournal.com 2003-04-25 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
All of it:) Every period.
Im not crazy about Middle eastern unless its done exceptionaly well (which we dont see much of in these parts)
Im particular to tudor and coteharties though:)

I just love the clothes . .

[identity profile] victoriapringle.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
I saw your journal several times through friends and communities so I started reading. I found your journal to be interesting so I added you to my friends list :)

Hmmm, tiny blurb about me - I spend most of my time on the SCA but I am trying to take at least part of my life back. I will be at Pennsic and would love to actually meet you in person.

[identity profile] alienor.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
We met through livejournal.... perhaps I used the similar interests search function? I don't really remember.

About me... a musically inclined SCAdian, living in Atlantia (South Carolina) and working on my master's in Materials Science & Engineering. Interests recently have been music (mostly recorders and vocal), feeling more "medieval" at events, and working to better understand myself both mentally and physically.

[identity profile] zzrg.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I got interested in something you said in a journal that belonged to someoneelse and added you to my friends list to learn more about you. I have no idea whose. All of my livejournal friends are people I know from livejournal. There is much more about me on my info page and website that I am not going to repeat here. Feel free to e-mail any specific questions and I will answer them.

[identity profile] browngirl.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
You are one of my earliest Livejournal Friends; you wrote me to ask if it were ok for you to put me on your friends list. :D We *are* going to meet one day, certainly.

Me? A little round brown religiously questing girl of 27 living in Boston.

Well, as you mentioned in the comment to [livejournal.com profile] msmemory, we've known each other at least since the early days of the Rialto. I can't take credit for creating that, though -- Danulf Donaldson did most of the hard work, with me just kibitzing and dealing with the Rolls Ethereal to help folks find each other. The only time I was really heavily involved in the administration was when we were creating the newsgroups; I was one of the people driving that, along with Kwellend and a few others.

Did we meet on the Rialto? I know that I got to know Dani there (there was a period when he, Arval and I accounted for something like half the volume between us), but I don't actually remember when and where we first got to know each other. Might well have been the Rialto, but I'm not sure...

(I think I actually found you on LJ through [livejournal.com profile] chaiya's journal. Or maybe the other way around; I forget.)

Who I am: loudmouth philosopher from Carolingia/East Kingdom/SCA. Technically a dance Laurel, but spending at least as much time on games these days. Hardcore Internet user since 1987, doing it professionally since about 1993, mostly developing various forms of socially-oriented tools. Also active in Freemasonry, LARP, and a bit with SF cons.

[identity profile] tangerinpenguin.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
[...] how do you know me?

We originally met through the SCA dance practices, circa 1986. I've been one of your deputy chroniclers, had a temp job with the QA team for one of your previous jobs, we've sung and/or played instruments together more times than I can count, and we've been in the same Pennsic encampment since well before the Polyhymnia camp/subcamp ever came together (has it been every Pennsic I've been to? I think there might have been one or two early on...).

[...] please give a tiny little blurb about yourself. Tell me where you're from, what you're interested in, a little relevant information like that.

I'm an adopted Pittsburgher, having lived here since I started at CMU in 1985 (prior to that my family moved several times, so "putting down roots" has been a comparatively recent development.) I'm a software developer. I like science fiction, armchair sociology, and long walks on the beach. Just north of Lisbon, perhaps.

"Christof the Pathfinder" (my SCA persona) is a Bavarian student in a university town somewhere in the Italian north ("Cour d'Or" is an Italian hill town, right? :-)) I've occupied various petty bureacracies at the Baronial and Kingdom levels. I had the good fortune to go to Rowany Festival in Lochac a year ago for their first Crown Tourney.

[identity profile] zare-k.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
I met you in choir.

I'm from Palo Alto CA, a CMU alum, interested in (among other things) history, sociology, assorted geek topics, music, beaches, and having my cake and eating it too. Currently employed as a programmer, and still trying to decide whether I enjoy it enough to stick with it as a long-term career, or whether I should shift to something like law.

[identity profile] autographedcat.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty certain that I vectored you via [livejournal.com profile] tigerbright, though it could have been the filk connection. (In truth, it's probably both -- if I friended *everyone* who made interesting remarks in tigerbright's lj, i'd have no time to do else but read LJ all day!)

I'm 32 years old, originally from North Carolina, living in Atlanta, where I work as a UNIX systems administrator. I'm poly, and live with my wonderful partner [livejournal.com profile] kitanzi. I have no kids and no current pets, but I have a huge extended family-by-choice.

[personal profile] rectangularcat 2003-04-24 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
How all this happened... I happened to do web research on the SCA last summer - deciding whether or not I want to be involved. I happened upon [livejournal.com profile] q_skud_'s webpage. I started reading the blog she has posted on there and one day it mentioned LJ. That didn't sink in but a while later when she had not posted for a very long time I made the connection and found her on LJ (through someone she referred to in her blog as [livejournal.com profile] cortejo. Started reading various friends lists of these two users and found your LJ that way... and then one day you made the entry with the codes.. and the rest is history! (does this make me an online-stalker or just someone bored who likes reading blogs?)

Tiny blurb about me: Cute(although I hate being called that), 28, new to the SCA, engaged, loves katts, loves religious discussions, being obtuse, LJ and oh yeah I'm an engineer (talk about not defining yourself by your profession). I'm originally from Montreal (yes I'm French Canadian) but now live on the wet coast of Vancouver (very wet today - scared for the weekend's camping event...). Suffers from an over-use of ellipses and parentheses. Oh and I adore the fact that we can have discussions about grammar... So I guess that makes me a geek of some sort as well... Oh and I like bears with bunny ears hats.. especially when the said hat comes off and can be put on certain kitties...

[identity profile] jerusha.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I found your LJ during my first "add anyone who's a filker" stage. I don't know if we've *met*, but we've been at at least one con in common (Conterpoint IV), and I have all three On the Mark albums. I've kept you because I enjoy the talking about music, and I also enjoy and am intrigued by the religious discussion. I'm a lapsed Catholic, dabbler in paganism, currently nothing in particular, who's married to a secular Jew. You see how there might be some overlap of interest :)

Me? 28, female, married, monogamous, filker, living in Chicago environs with husband, ~5k books, ~12 instruments.

Meme response

[identity profile] lefkowitzga.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yours is the first of this meme that I read. Here goes:

How do you know me?
We met from both attending fight practice at CMU - I think it was summer of '81 or '82. You fought, I hung out. We becaome closer friends when you were Chronicler and I was an extra set of hands for 4 years. Both of us are original members of the Debatable choir. We combined camping situations at Pennsic 21 or 22 - your group of friends, my land connections. Due to this, each of us calls the other the one who started the camp. We tried out services together when you became interested in Judaism, and I took you to lunch to celebrate your conversion. I was your attendant at your wedding. You're going to teach me how to do simple illumination.

I couldn't think of what to write about myself. Ummm I like music, taking pictures, sewing and other needle arts, travelling, and good friends. The SCA gives ample opportunity for all of the above, which is why I'm still here.

Re: Meme response

[identity profile] lefkowitzga.livejournal.com 2003-04-25 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I was a deputy without portfolio, at least, I don't remember having a title or anything. Thanks for being so complimentary.

Typing was easy, but at the time I didn't know what an editor was, being incredibly computer-illiterate. Still am a little (note lack of user pics). I had forgotten about the time I did the paste up 'cause you were sick. IIRC, my job by that time was doing the pictures and page numbers. It was a good education in putting out a newsletter.

There was only 1 meeting that I missed: you held the Sept. meeting on Yom Kippur one year and we were doing a break-fast.

[identity profile] ealdthryth.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
>If I'm on your friends list, how do you know me? (I know that in some cases it's obvious.)
[livejournal.com profile] alienor had you on her friends list. She talked about how interesting some of your entries are, so I checked out your journal, agreed with her, and added you as a friend. :-)

Also, if you feel like it, please give a tiny little blurb about yourself. Tell me where you're from, what you're interested in, a little relevant information like that.
I'm originally from Leicester, England (moved when I was 7). I now live in upstate South Carolina with my husband of 5 years and my 17 year old cat Minerva. My main SCA interest is 12th century England. I also dabble in other areas. I have lots of varied interests outside the SCA. Unitarian Universalism and other religions, alternative healing, and deep ecology are a few of them. Career-wise, I am an unemployed computer programmer.

[identity profile] nsingman.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe that we found each other through other Callahanians (I think you added me first, and then I added you back). And copied from a previous response to a similar request, here are two sentences about me.

I'm a middle-aged (42), long married (20.67 years - that's my wife [livejournal.com profile] jungle_goddess in the picture), radical libertarian computer programmer (mathematical/financial applications) with three kids (17, 14 and 12). I love SF, am rather cool on fantasy, and obsess over Mystery Science Theater 3000.

[identity profile] nsingman.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for clearing that up. I get confused sometimes. :-)

[identity profile] jeannegrrl.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I know you through [livejournal.com profile] sethcohen's LJ

My blurb in no particular order: Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Metro DC (Alexandria to be precise). Majored in Music, Minored in Computer Science. Happily married to Hillel, Mommy to Jacob (7.7.2002) I sing w/ Zemer Chai - Washington's Jewish Community Chorus. Born Jewish, but not raised w/ any religious foundation and started my return to Judiasm in 1996. Favorite Comics: Sandman, Bone, Strangers in Paradise, Thieves and Kings. (is that enough?) :-)

[identity profile] estherchaya.livejournal.com 2003-04-25 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
You were born in Brooklyn? How did I not know this?

[identity profile] dvarin.livejournal.com 2003-04-24 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
After looking at the people who've responded, and as much as I would love to say that I'm one of the people who didn't meet you because of the SCA... I can't. There was some period where both of us were in the barony consort before you quit that and I quit the SCA for being Not My Thing. I honestly hope you don't remember though, as I was a twit at the time. (Or so my present self thinks. Who knows what my future self will think of me, though.)
Later we met at Claritech where you were partially responsible for teaching me the incredible value of techwriters. Currently, we work at the same company and I occaisionally see you walking by my desk en route to the beverages. :)

who are you?

Am I the only one who got a bit of a chill from this question? Too much B5, I guess... :-)

how do you know me?
I know you from LJ, and only LJ. I first saw your writing in a friend's Journal (probably [livejournal.com profile] tigerbright deserves the credit), and added you to my watch list. I think that it was probably the Jewish stuff that I noticed first, although we seem to also have overlapping computer and SF interests as well.

where you're from, what you're interested in,

I grew up in Western Massachusetts (not Germany as one might think by my habit of capitalizing Nouns for no particular reason). I lived most of my life in New England, up until mid '97, when I went to Jerusalem for a year. Since coming back, I've mainly lived in New York City. I'm interested in Judaism, SF, computers, astronomy, games, science, art, broadway shows, nature, [livejournal.com profile] joy_kochava[1]... among other things... (Also note: the previous list is not in any particular order)

[1] Joy hasn't actually written in her journal, so this is not the most interesting of links to follow.

Stock answer to nearly everybody whose blog I'm answering in: We met in the SCA.
Additional reply: I'm trying to remember exactly how *long* we've known each other. I joined the SCA at Hasdrubal & Amber's coronation. You maybe the first non-Rhydderich Hael Scadian I made friends with. So, I think we've been friends less than 19 years but more than 15. Can you narrow it any further?

Also, if you feel like it, please give a tiny little blurb about yourself. Tell me where you're from, what you're interested in, a little relevant information like that.

Stock answer: I'm a computer programmer/web designer who has been doing it for so long that I can remember writing computer programs on punch cards and papertape! (I'm NOT kidding!) Originally from Buffalo, New York, I now live in Fredonia, about 60 miles southwest of Buffalo, in a 130 year old Victorian farmhouse on six acres with my wife and a kindle of cats. I can't imagine living anywhere else right now. My interests are variable and subject to change with time. They are currently: juggling; puppetry; SCA; SF; writing fiction, non-fiction, and poetry; letterboxing. Feel free to ask additional questions.

I'm 6'2", eyes of blue. Gosh, I love saying that. :) Happily married to [livejournal.com profile] ksnell in Silver Spring, MD. Born in NJ, then spent time travelling through NH, NY, OH, MI, and FL.
