Shavuot

Shavuot starts tonight and is then followed by Shabbat, so I'll be quiet for a couple days.

Shavuot is under-rated by most Jews, which is sad. It commemorates the event that makes us Jews -- the giving of Torah. But it lasts for one day, not a week, and doesn't have prominent props and stuff, so I guess it's easy to overlook.

Shavuot is special to me, though, because it's so closely bound up with my own religious history. I'll always have a warm spot in my heart for this holiday.

To you too -- I'm too beat to make to shul to celebrate, but I'm going to the second day service on Saturday. (Yes, I know we don't celebrate second day in the diaspora...)

I'm caught up, as far as catching up goes. We have lots of cheesecake. Any suggestions on how we can not waste it and not keep it around?

Well, if you don't want to waste it and you don't want to keep it, that means someone needs to eat it. If you don't want to do that personally, I suggest involving non-Jewish friends or coworkers. :-) (Non-Jewish on the theory that the Jewish ones will be suffering cheesecake overload.)

Hmm...perhaps there will be a cheesecake delivery to work... :)

That's what I often do with excess sweets. I can always count on the vultures to descend. :-)
