almost ready for 5764

I'm almost ready for Rosh Hashana (which starts tomorrow night). Saturday lunch is cooked and in the fridge; tomorrow night's dinner is mostly prepped, except for the stuff that has to be done at the last minute. It turns out I'm not having guests Friday, so that turned out to be easier -- specifically, I didn't make a honey cake, because it'll just be the two of us and we don't eat a lot of dessert (especially rich desserts). I have other dessert for Saturday.

We were supposed to play D&D tonight, but the game got cancelled in favor of a whoever-shows-up "smackdown" (session without consequences). I was going to go anyway (I enjoy those), but the combination of Dani not wanting to go and Rosh Hashana prep led me to reconsider. Pity about that, though.

Must... not... give into... jealousy...

Ah, well, I just got an invite for Sunday lunch, so I probably have one less dish to cook. And I'm going to be ready, just as soon as get off-line, go shopping, start cooking, do my laundry and clean. Easy!

I guess it's good that I'm not going into work today... although I guess that if I were, I'd have done more stuff in advance. I hope.

:-) Some optimization is possible, of course. Salad comes in bags, gefilte fish comes in ready-to-boil logs, challah and dessert come from the bakery... around here, you can buy entire meals pre-cooked; Kosher Mart has a hot-foods section.

Salad did come from a bag, gefilte fish was from a glass jar (and was no salt and no MSG, ugh), and a guest was bringing Challah and dessert. I could've bought pre-cooked food, but that would have meant spending a lot more than I wanted.

Still, I did the shopping, cooking, and laundry. Even some of the cleaning!

Now all I need to do is to finish cleaning up and also to invite myself to the break fast a couple at my minyan does after Yom Kippur every year... :-)

gefilte fish

I was introduced to the frozen gefilte fish a couple years ago, and there's no going back. It's much better than the stuff in the jars. Give it a try sometime.
