I'm on my third cable company without moving; Comcast bought out AT&T's cable business in my area a few months ago. When the switch first happened I paid attention to bills and channel lineups in case there were changes, but there weren't.

Tonight I figured out why I got something else on the Enterprise tape last night. Sometime between last week and last night, they quietly switched two channels.

Now in the case of Enterprise, no harm done. It's a so-so show and there's a weekend rerun. But still, you'd think they maybe could have said something before changing channels. I actually do read the random junk they print at the bottom of the bill, and there was nothing.

I guess when you're a monopoly you don't have to be reasonable. I'm glad we don't have DSL monopolies here any more.

Just one of life's tiny irritants...

But on the positive side, maybe the signal on that channel will get better now. It's always been kind of spotty; if I'm lucky the problem will turn out to have been "channel 19" rather than "UPN affiliate". I can hope.

I know. You may have seen me complain about Cogeco, the cable company here, deciding to switch our US networks from Rochester, NY stations to Detroit stations. According to the message on the community channel, that was supposed to happen September 25th (a Thursday, and a date easily remembered by me, since it is my mother's birthday). So, when we were still getting the old stations Friday afternoon, I decided to call and see what was going on. Well, first of all, the customer service number is centralised in Toronto, and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Customer service transferred me to tech support. Tech support was equally clueless about the matter. In an amazing stroke of common sense, they gave me the phone number for the LOCAL OFFICE!!!! So, I called. The person on the other end knew what I was talking about, but didn't know that they hadn't changed. Would I like her to phone me back when she knew what was going on? Sure...gave her my phone number. Since then, not a word.

Somewhere around Monday, the message about the change disappeared from the community channel. I figured that meant we wouldn't be changing after all. Wrong! Last night, I noticed that the message was back, but with the date changed to Thursday, October 9. (Do I believe it this time? *shrug*)

If I ever get my apartment cleaned up, and enough money put away that I could pay for the dish and everything, I'd be asking my landlord so fast if I could put one fo those little satellite dishes up. I definately don't have any love affair with my cable company!
