veterinary goodness

When I called for an appointment for my cats' annual checkups/shots/etc, the scheduling people told me the latest weekday appointment they could give me was 6:10. This is earlier than I usually get home from work, and even if I did leave early that day, inserting cats into carriers works much better with two people and Dani wouldn't be home by then. But appointment slots for this vet are 40 (!) minutes long and the last one is at 7:30, so I had to start at 6:10 or make multiple trips. They eventually sent me directly to the vet with my questions.

(You may remember this vet from last year. She is the single reason that I haven't dumped VCA in favor of some other vet, or the Cat Clinic. She's good, and I want her specifically despite the general annoyance of the VCA institution.)

I explained the scheduling problem and said that I'd like to avoid the overhead of three separate visits if I could, though I do not want to inconvenience her. I asked if seeing my three cats together really requires two hours total, and she said no it doesn't and she'd be happy to just have me bring the gang in at 7 that night.

Yay! Flexibility on top of competence!

(She also remembered Erik by name, though she had no advance warning on this phone call. That's a good sign.)

VCA Fox Chapel?

We take Leto and Chani there (the dogs). I wish it wasn't so far away, but they have been really good to the pups.

It's really nice when you find a good vet. I really liked the one in TR, which is why I continued to take Minerva there, even though it is a 45 min drive. I am taking the kittens to a place about 10 min away. They seem great too and I have a good friend who works there part-time.

Finding a good vet is as important as find a good primary care physician, IMO. I love our vet and will wait to get an appointment specifically with her instead of one with another vet at the practice. She takes the time to answers all of my questions, even over the phone. And I don't get the feeling she thinks I'm a worrying mother (when I really am ). Glad to hear that you have a vet that realizes the clinic "rules" are sometimes meant to be broken.
