First day of cat-sitting: "Hey, whatever. You're not my human. You can leave the food over there."

Second day of cat-sitting: "A person! Yes! PlayPlayPlayPlayPlay! Here, let me roll over and do cute stuff and purr madly so you'll stay longer! Ooh! Pet me pet me pet me!"

It should be fascinating to see what she's like in a few more days. :-)

Heh, yes I've seen that behavior!

Even my ultra-timid cat warms up to the cat-sitter after several days, so I expected this cat (with normal levels of timidity) to warm up to me. I just expected it to be more gradual. :-)

When my mother's neighbor went on vacation, my mother agreed to feed the cats for a week. She never saw either cat the entire time. The food she put down was being eaten so she knew they were still in the house, but she never once saw either of them. Go figure.

I cat-sat for a neighbor who assured me that they have five cats. Two of them mostly hid [1], but on the last day they both came out and demanded attention. I was pretty sure they were in the house, though, because I hadn't let any cats out and I assumed the owner had been careful about that when leaving.

[1] I can only tell these two cats apart if I'm looking at both of them. Sometimes I caught glimpses of one of them. I don't know if they were trading off, or if one was just more timid than the other, or what.

I once cat-sat for three cats.

Subsequently, the owner told me he had four cats.

I presume that you cat-sat for four cats, of which three responded in your presence. :-) (Unless the fourth spent the entire time outside or something?)

There was a brief moment of panic there, after he mentioned there being four of them, where I wondered if one had become lost on my watch, but, no, he found four cats in his place upon his return. Thank goodness.
