My lilac bush is finally blooming! It seems like everyone else's did that a couple weeks ago.

Our congregation's annual meeting was tonight. I am no longer worship chair (term expired). For the first time in four years I have no official position of responsibility. It feels odd. I'm going to see if I can change that. :-) (I mean, an incipient sh'liach k'hilah ought to be able to do something useful, and official, around the place...)

I like this pitch for minyan attendance (forwarded by xiphias). Very talmudic. :-)

CNN reports: "An 86-year-old woman was jailed after police said she called emergency dispatchers 20 times in a little more than a half-hour -- all to complain that a pizza parlor wouldn't deliver. [...] She also complained that someone at the shop called her a "crazy old coot," Giannini said." Um, yeah, that sounds about right to me. :-)

Old news for some, but anyone who hasn't yet seen the UK memo about fixing the case for the invasion of Iraq should do so. (I first saw it via profane_stencil.)

She attacked the officer, too. She's not just crazy, but violent and dangerous. I'm fairly tolerant of crazy old coots, but have zero tolerance for those who initiate violence.

I agree. The phone calls were the acts of a crazy old coot; the later behavior is just plain criminal.

or the sign of someone who is seriously unwell and doesn't have people who will ensure she gets treatment. Hopefully that will happen now if it is needed.

Whether the violence was caused by mental illness or something else, it's still a problem (and in this case a criminal act, assault). Presumably that will come out in the investigation and, with luck, she'll get medical help if she needs it.
