Phish-feeders have to be careful not to get bitten. Spam displaying a URL may be trying to get people to access it so that the site can exploit a security flaw and download malware onto their computer. Always disable JavaScript, ActiveX, and automatic downloading and opening before visiting such a site. Alternatively, use a "dumb" browser such as Lynx for such sites. If you aren't sure you know what you're doing, don't open a suspicious URL in a browser.

Excellent point. I don't think I'd personally be comfortable going to any spammer's or phisher's web site, though if I did I'd use Lynx. I've seen a few phishing schemes that request an email reply, and I'd be willing to feed them from a bogus email address (using mailinator). At least in theory; I haven't actually done this.
