Rosh Hashana
Oct. 3rd, 2005 11:20 amThe start of the year 5766 is hours away. Shana tova to my Jewish friends (and anyone else who wants to join in).
Rosh Hashana celebrates the creation of the world (and some other things). Yom Kippur is when we try to make things right with God so we can get a fresh start. God won't forgive us for sins against other people until we've made things right with them, so if I have done something to hurt you, please tell me. I can't promise that I will be able to fix it, but I do promise that I will try. Comments are screened (though feel free to use email instead).

Date: 2005-10-03 09:54 pm (UTC)When I was growing up in NJ, the public schools in my town closed for the High Holy Days -- the town really did have that many Jewish teachers and students.
I've no recollection of anything you've done to hurt me, so no worries on that score from my corner. I am glad I had the chance to get to know you better during the past year, and hope that this will continue in the future.

Date: 2005-10-05 01:47 am (UTC)The Pittsburgh schools close for Rosh Hashana (or so I'm told). I was surprised when I heard this; yeah, we have a fair number of Jews, but I didn't think it was that significant. The school I went to never closed for Jewish holidays; in fact, if any of my classmates were Jewish, they never mentioned it.
I am glad I had the chance to get to know you better during the past year, and hope that this will continue in the future.
Same here! I've enjoyed getting to know you better and am glad we got to spend a little time together at Pennsic. (Will you be at Darkover?)
