[SCA] Pennsic planning

Pennsic starts in about two weeks. If you're going and you don't mind sharing: Where are you camping, and where else will you be findable? When are you arriving? What fun things are you planning to do? (And, if there's any chance I haven't connected LJ names and SCA names, what's your SCA name?)

I plan to arrive Thursday of the first week and will be camping with Polyhymnia (part of Debatable Lands), in block N10 on Cariadoc's Path between Brewers and Chandlers. (Look for the house.) I'm generally in camp late morning/early afternoon and around dinner time, often later too (but might try to make it to more of the night-time dancing this year). I plan to be at the performances by I Sebastiani, I Genesii, Known World Choir, and (I hope -- cooking that night) Debatable Choir. I will also be at AEthelmearc Court and Johan's memorial. Shabbat plans for the middle weekend are unmade at this time. Other activities to be worked out (classes, shopping, visiting friends, etc). I'm leaving mid-day on the final Friday.

I am sad to say that we're definitely not coming this year. If I get a chance, however, I will send you some of my homemade Shabbos and havdalah beeswax candles. If not, you at least have some soap to remember me by. :)

Yeah, I wanted to see you, too. I wish we could come, but it's just not in the budget or the vacation planning (what with Steve having a new job), and my massage commitments are to Carolingians, who I can work on here just as well as there. So stay home, we shall.

I am multi-talented! I make lots of things with my hands. Makes me happy, and keeps me busy. ;)

Ostgard, again. And still trying to figure out the food thing. I'd love to find the other kosher folk, and arrange a delivery of chicken/meat mid trip.. I'm not quite sure what I'll do for shabbos yet. Should be interesting.

(I just got a new cooler-supposedly ice will stay frozen 6 days at 90 degrees F. If true.. it'll be helpful :-)

Hi. I keep kosher and will be at Pennsic. Would also be interested in figuring it out. In the past, Giant Eagle has managed to get Empire chickens.

Last year one of the local Giant Eagles had both Empire chicken and Aaron's beef. I usually wimp out and go the veg/dairy route as much as possible, with maybe some pre-packaged lunch meat for Shabbat. (Will you be on site for the middle Shabbat, or are you arriving after?)

Cool. If you don't mind the low-key approach (cold foods etc), please consider coming for Shabbat lunch.

For the last couple years I've been leaving on the final Friday, and I find that much better than staying through and watching the camp disappear around me while I can do nothing. But being local means this is less of a hit for me than it is for you, so I understand the motivation to stay. (Does Shabbat in Pittsburgh before returning to Cooper's Lake to pack up work?)

Thanks! If your supplier could bring a loaf of challah for me that would be wonderful; I worry about what I'd be able to bring wilting. (I usually fall back on pita, which has a longer shelf life, but challah is better!)

The store in Slippery Rock, and @ Butler Rd, & Wilmington Rd don't seem to carry it. Some of them did, last year, but no longer. I think Wilmington may carry Turkey, but can't get the chicken or anything else.

And they think they have something, but the guy in charge will be back on Monday and will be able to tell me exactly what they carry. Supposedly Aaron's Beef of some sort. If anyone knows anyone that's bought the chicken up there by a case before, we should start figuring it out now...

I'm going to look for one of those coolers this Sunday. (Naturally, I put this off until nearly the last minute. :-) )

I usually just side-step most of the meat issue for Pennsic; I eat a lot of yogurt, cheese, soy, veggies, and fish when I can get it. A couple of vacuum-packed things of lunch meat for Shabbat is easier to deal with than a town run (and cooking). Granted, it's not particularly festive, but given the cooking facilities, I'm not sure it's a bad idea.

If the low-key approach works for you I'll be happy to have you (and osewalrus et al) over for Shabbat lunch.

Possibly useful food: LaBriute meals (http://labriutemeals.com/main.htm), which are shelf-stable and self-heating. The meals are ok (not bad, not amazing), but it's sometimes nice to have something hot.

I'll be camping with Caer Edgemere again, and arriving right at the start (driving a truck for a merchant again). I haven't seen confirmation yet that we'll be in our customary spot in E15, but that's where I expect to be -- our usual spot within the block is: last camp on the right before the tree line if you're walking downhill on Brewer's Road.

Camping with Yama Kaminari. Arriving Tuesday night of First week (tho, up over the weekend to get things started). Fun things I plan on doing: fencing, fighting, going to classes, hanging with friends, more fencing, fencing and did I mention fencing? :)

I will be camping with Eldenwood (E10) this year. I'll be there all second week.

Most of my days will be spent at the Games Tent (either teaching or just manning the tent) or helping my friend Galen with his merchant tent. Beyond that, I'll be at EK Court, the SCA History thing (whatever that turns out to be this year) along with various Order and officer meetings. I still hope to check out the class list and see if there is anything that catches my eye, but I haven't done it yet.

Camping: Yama Kaminari in E03. I'll probably be spending more time in camp this year than I have in previous years (it's that whole "not having to trudge up and down the Runestone" thing ^_^), but as usual, if you want to find Cadell, check Troll and Heralds' Point before you check his camp.

Arrival: going up Friday morning for a Troll meeting, but will arrive with all my stuff Landgrab Saturday and should be there for the rest of War.

Fun things: Troll! (Wait, you mean that isn't most people's idea of "fun?") Heralds' Point! GENESII! I'll be showing angel_vixen around the second week, as this will be her first Pennsic. Other than that... erm... not a whole lot planned, but that's why I'm bringing my game bag. ^_^

I'll be in E03 with Yama Kaminari. I'll probably arrive Saturday or Sunday of the first week, and will be there mostly until the end (I'll need to take periodic trips home to check on the kitties).

I can generally be found in camp, shopping, or going to classes. I'll probably be retaining for their Highnesses of AEthelmearch from time to time, and I'll also probably do a security shift at some point.

But Pennsic is always low low low key for me. Mostly, I spend a lot of time under the camp pavilion.

Same here. I spend a lot of time either relaxing in camp or visiting friends I only get to see at Pennsic. I don't do a lot of the scheduled, organized activities, and lately don't spend a lot of time shopping either. (This will be my 25th Pennsic; the merchants don't turn over that much. :-) )

W'ere on the NE 30, where we were last year when we were the Barony of Storvik (Johana is no longer baronness, and the new baron and baroness don't want to do a Storvik encampment and don't want Storvik camp that doesn't have the baron and baronness, so we took over the same spot under a new name.

The L.C. (Darmon) and I (Sabine) are camping in N-11 with Bhakail (same place we were last year) -- we'll be out for the full two weeks.

I'm embarrassed to admit that this year I haven't yet made any scheduling plans *at all* (eek!). I'm hoping it'll be a laid-back War... you'll almost certainly be able to catch me/us goofing off in the hammock any time, at least through the first week! :)

I (Evan da Collaureo) will be at Pennsic. I don't yet know when I'll arrive but it will be no later than Middle Friday afternoon (the 11th); I plan to stay until the final Sunday (the 20th). montuos (Alys) will be at Pennsic as well, but only for Middle Saturday (arriving Friday evening/night) and part of Sunday (the 12th-13th).

I don't yet know where I'll be camping. (Yes, I preregistered. Issues have since arisen, and I don't yet know how those issues will be resolved. Some potential scenarios could make me want not to camp there.)

Where I plan to be: Heralds Point, Troll, and the dance tent, all on a regular basis. Choir practice, and the Choir concert Thursday evening. I Sebastiani and I Genesii shows, schedule permitting. Johan's wake. East Kingdom court. *Maybe* Atlantian court, but if the parts of EK court I want to see are in conflict, EK court wins. There are a couple of merchants I'll be hanging out with pretty frequently -- White Wolf and the Phoenix (a/k/a Megan and herveus) being one.
