There are signs, for a few miles of highway, for "[My street] detour". Must be some other part of the street; I haven't seen problems. I haven't been curious enough to follow the signs, but I think there are much more direct routes than what they're doing. Hmm: "detour" sounds kind of similar to "deter", as in "you didn't really want to go there, did you?".

Seen on a truck: a sign for Loafer's bread. Cute.

Seen in Regent Square, a shop called "legume". ??? Pretentious food? Pants? Does it amount to a hill of beans?

Personally, I get the impression that 6A/LJ are in way over their heads: they manage the site like it's a small hobbyist site.

The promised "explanation" seems to be "DDOS". I was hoping for something a little more detailed. :-( They also suggest email posting, but that doesn't work either (the email bounces). "In over their heads" sounds about right to me, yeah.

They mentioned that they were taking some steps to mitigate the attacks.

I could imagine that if they were being hit by an attempt to clobber their databases by making $MAX_LENGTH-1 posts, they might restrict post length to something smaller. If they were being hit by an LJ-specific attack like that, they might not want to mention the exact steps that they were taking for fear of the attackers adapting.

That's guess piled on top of guess, though. I'm not even sure I believe it.
