First few times that happened to me involved various Cleveland-area BBSes. Internet? Pfeh. :)

Well, yeah, same here. (Not BBSes but Usenet, in my case.) But you've got to put in current refs to get the laughs. :-)

It's not a strong effect, but it's been observed before. Some people hold out for a significant event. Was it Adams and Jefferson that both died on July 4th?

My Aunt had a stroke the doctors thought should have killed her. She lingered for a while. Christmas morning, was wished a Merry Christmas and Happy 88th Birthday. 15 minutes later, she died.
