cat checkup

Erik: 7lbs 14oz (not out of line for the last year, but down from his recent high of 8.5lb; my vet is not concerned). Heart 160, no murmurs. Getting bloodwork to confirm that the adjustments we made to his hyperthyroid medicine were appropriate. Last month we dropped the dosage on the monthly antibiotics pulse to 7 days' worth; continuing that this month. (Something in the bloodwork, I guess the liver numbers, will tell us if this is a problem.)

Baldur: 15lbs even, up from his last visit (which was down, over two years, from his high of 17.75lbs). Heart 200, murmur for the third exam in a row (rated as 2 on a scale of 1-6); my vet suggests a chest X-ray to look for forgotten-by-me diseases that affect the shape of the heart. (If there's an ultrasound in his future, she said they'd want the X-ray first anyway.) My vet said even in his rotundness, he looks very good for a nearly-15-year-old cat. (She describes Erik, his littermate, as her "miracle kitty" because of everything he's been through.)

Note to self: Baldur is no longer permitted to use one of the smaller carriers; tonight we had to take it apart to get him out. Mind, there was enough room in there that he turned himself around in transit; he wasn't stuck if he didn't want to be. He was being stubborn. I have one carrier that I think is intended for small dogs; it'll be nearly impossible for him to spread out enough that we can't pull him out of that.
