daf bit: Ketovot 110

The mishna teaches: a man may not compel his wife to move with him from a city to a town or from a town to a city. He may not compel her to move from a dwelling that is superior to one that is inferior, or even vice-versa. However, a man may compel his entire household to make aliyah with him, or if in Eretz Yisrael, to go up to Jerusalem, and a wife may compel her husband to stay with her in Jerusalem. (110a-b)

Alter is pretty much living in Israel because I was when we met and didn't want to move.

I am always pleasantly surprised to find Talmud discussing such seemingly modern issues.

I shared this with my husband over the breakfast table. His response? "Have fun in Cincinnati, love, I'm staying here." [An allusion to me idly dreaming of going off to HUC-JIR and become a rabbi].
