let's keep this

Two months ago my vet suggested trying a different antibiotic for Erik (Marbofloxacin), replacing Metronidazole. (This is combined with Clavamox.) She also recently learned of something that is best described as "herbal medicine for cats" (Denamarin) that might help with liver problems, so we started that about a month ago -- but kind of erratically, because it must be taken in pill form and, well, pills and me and Erik doesn't always work so well. So he hasn't been getting it every day like he should, but that's not harmful, just less helpful.

Oh, and his T4 (hyperthyroid number) had been rising, so we bumped up his meds a bit there.

We did tests this week to check in on all that. The results:

T4: 1.1 (down from 5.6) (good)
WBC: 13,200 -- high, but he's usually over 20K so this is an improvement

And, drum roll...

ALT: 779!!! I think this is the first time that's been down into three digits; it's usually around 1500. This is the main liver number. (Normal is 100.)

Wow. Only time will tell whether this is trend or blip, but I'm not inclined to mess with anything.

Oh, and he weighs 7lbs 10oz, up half a pound from mid-December. (But that was down a few ounces from the time before, so there's apparently some natural fluctuation.)

I mix Julie's methamazole with tuna. Helps bulk her up and gets the pill down twice a day (you have to watch the ash, though...she's on a low-ash diet otherwise, thanks to Bob).
