Another episode of "yes, we talk like this":

In a restaurant:
D: What's taking so long with my salad?
M: They're filleting your anchovies one by one.
D: They're catching my anchovies.
M: With little teeny fish-hooks.
D: They're not micro-fish.
M: Nobody does microfiche any more.

Road sign: "aggressive driving enforcement zone".
D: What does "aggressive" bind to?
M: "driving-enforcement" -- "you there, parked by the road -- shoo! shoo! This road is for driving!"

Oh, heavens no. And I got the "yes we really talk like this" line from mabfan and gnomi.

This is to distinguish it from the "passive-aggressive driving enforcement zone", where the cop pulls you over, trudges up to your window, sighs, and says "I suppose that even though the sign there says 35, you could drive 45 on this street, if you really have to."

He supposes that your poor mother [1] wouldn't be worried sick over your doing something like that -- but hey, it's your family drama to work out, so go ahead...

[1] For the younger crowd, substitute "grandmother".

Micro fish

I recently got a form letter from the state of Indiana with the box checked "the record was not fou8nd in the state index or the micro fish". The letter was then certified. I guess the record swam away.

Aquatic records -- who knew? I would have thought that sealing them in plastic would blow the budget.
