daf bit: Bava Batra 139
The mishna teaches: if one died and left sons who are of age and
minor sons, those who are of age are not to be supported at the
expense of the minors, nor are the minors to be fed at the expense
of those who are of age. All sons divide the estate equally.
If one left only daughters the same rules apply. If one left both
sons and daughters, normally the sons inherit and the daughters are
maintained from the estate (until they marry); however, daughters (but
not minor sons) are fed at the expense of sons who are of age. (139a)
A mishna on 139b teaches that if the estate is small, daughters are maintained from it and the sons shall go begging, to which Admon says "shall I be the loser because I am male?". R. Gamliel agrees with him, and no one takes either of them to task in the g'mara here.
