daf bit: Niddah 31

Our rabbis taught: there are three partners in the creation of a person: the Holy One blessed be he, the father, and the mother. The father supplies what will become bones, sinews, nails, the brain, and the whites of the eyes; the mother supplies what will become skin, flesh, hair, blood, and the black of the eyes; and the Holy One supplies spirit and breath, beauty of features, eyesight, hearing, speech, the ability to walk, understanding, and discernment. When it is time for a person to depart from the world the Holy One takes back what He supplied and leaves what was supplied by his father and mother. (31a)

I've never heard that before -- what a beautiful, moving way of thinking of it.
