The g'mara on yesterday's daf makes several statements (in the names of various rabbis) about behavior that is pleasing to God. R. Eleazar is said to have said: when two scholars sharpen each other in halacha (that is, debate each other), God gives them success, and further they ascend to greatness. It was said in the name of R. Shimon ben Lakish: when two scholars are amicable to each other, God gives heed to them. R. Hinena ben Idi said: whoever fulfills a precept as it is commanded, no evil tidings are told to him, and even if the Holy One blessed be he made a decree, he annuls it. R. Abba said in the name of R. Shimon ben Lakish (again): when two scholars pay heed to each other in halacha, God listens to their voice. (63a)

(Today's daf is 64.)

As I had explained to classmates, I come from a people who consider argument a sacrament. :D
