Wicked (short notes)

We saw Wicked tonight. I previously only knew the short (two-sentence or so) description of the show; hadn't heard the soundtrack or much about the show.

Great show! There is a lot of complicated stage-craft (and lighting-craft) in this show and the production we saw was smooth and effective and at times visually stunning. I'm sure I missed a lot of smaller details from row T, but even so I thoroughly enjoyed myself. We also had a good cast and (except for the finale) excellent micing, so everything was clear. I loved some of the humorous bits in the show, too. ("Blonde." :-) )

And let me also say how thrilled I am to see a starring female role written for an alto. I was beginning to doubt that these existed.

:) altos. It seems like if Idina Menzel is involved, suddenly altos!

I still haven't seen the show--but thought this was a pretty cool video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxKjiJ2qwtU) you might enjoy now that you know the music. Kristin Chenoweth invites audience members to come up and sing with her, giving them the easy part...except this time it's a vocal instructor who has been waiting her whole life for this moment! Fun stuff.

I'm glad you liked it! I really enjoyed it...and considering how neat the touring production is, I'd love to see "Wicked" in a theater that is its permanent home.

Hope you keep having a great trip!

Yes indeed.

Not sure of the technical designations, but I think I once read that they re-jiggered the lead vocals in Sunday in the Park with George once the leads were cast because Bernadette Peters could sing so low and Mandy Patinkin could sing so high.
