Tonight we had dinner with Jean (it's been too long since we've seen Jean) at a new Indian restaurant in Highland Park, Sitar. (They just opened a couple weeks ago.) The food was very good. I had the Matar Paneer (cheese and peas in a mild sauce); at other places this has been sort of bland and soggy, but not so at Sitar. I also ordered the "vegetarian sampler" appetizer; the food was tasty and the portions were quite generous. (The dinner portion was unexceptional, but this is not a complaint.) The waiters did a pretty good job of keeping the water glasses filled and did not seem to be irritated that we accidentally stayed half an hour past closing. I would definitely go back there again. Too bad it's in the wrong neighborhood for lunch (for me; it's convenient for Jean).

Jean had the Chicken Biryani (I think that's the name -- a rice dish) and seemed to be very happy with it. Dani had something involving goat that he liked. Sorry, I didn't sample either; you'll have to ask them.

Sitar is on Bryant Street, not to be confused with Bryant Circle a block away. Welcome to Pittsburgh.

Earlier tonight (before dinner) I saw my friend Jan for the first time in about two months. (I know her from Temple Sinai, and that's where I saw her.) Her father died a few days ago, and this was the first night after the shiva so she came to services. (I am also frustrated that I didn't know this before tonight, or I would have tried to visit her, at least for the minyan.) Sigh. This has not been a good year for my friends in this regard.
