[livejournal.com profile] beegle posted a link to an ethical philosophy selector. I haven't digested the results yet (some sound counter-intuitive to me), but my results are:

The same people have a religion selector, but it's got some problems. While it pegged the #1 position correctly (and a strong contender is #4 on the list), any selector that offers a 98% on Baha'i and 97% on Sikhism when I said "no human incarnations of God, dammit", is a little screwed up. And the highest-scoring Christian denomination came in at 63% (if you don't count Unitarians -- I don't think they count themselves but I'm not sure), which is kind of high.

I guess what tests like this lack is proper handling of cases of fundamental incompatability.

At Sunday dinner I made a comment that I fear might have come off wrong. We were talking about this group that Dani and I have dinner with sometimes, and how one participating couple hasn't been taking their turn when it comes around.

I don't keep a scorecard on these things; it was more of an observation than a complaint. I actually like to have people over for dinner (I think I'm a competent cook and I like to exercise that skill). I wish that we were doing more to reciprocate on the Sunday dinners, but I suspect that Ralph doesn't want to rotate the location. (Tell me if I'm wrong.) That leads to the need to find additional free nights, which can be a challenge.

I think the only reason the other case was noteworthy is that rotation is explicitly part of the ground rules of that group, unlike the more casual invitation of friends for a random dinner, or the more fixed "Ralph and Lori host Sundays" rule.

paella

I tried a new recipe for "vegetable paella" tonight. (We will set aside the question of whether that is an oxymoron.) It was pretty yummy; I think it's a keeper. Ralph, it's in that vegetarian cookbook you gave me, in care you're curious. Next time I will decrease the salt.

The rice did not get as yellow as I would have liked. I used enough saffron and I bled the color out of it appropriately; I think there was just too much other liquid in there, or something. I'll have to think about how to modify it.
