the craft of storytelling

Recently I found myself listening to a storyteller who, mostly, didn't click for me. But sometimes she did, so it wasn't just a basic skill problem. And some other people seemed to like her. Being me, I tried to analyze what was going on. Following are some of my observations, in the form of "rules for storytellers". Go ahead and wrap a great big "in my opinion" around all of this, 'cause I'm going to use words like "good" and "bad" and obviously these are not universal.
