[SCA] newcomers at general meetings

I'm curious how other SCA groups with predictable influxes (this usually means students) handle the introduction. We have demos at the beginning of the school year on our two major college campuses, so the first general meeting in September doubles as the "talk to the people from the demos who were curious enough to come to the meeting" meeting.

Shana tova

Tomorrow night begins Rosh Hashana. Happy new year, and may 5768 bring joy and happiness to everyone reading this.

I'm participating in services both Thursday and Friday mornings, doing the haftarah blessings the first day and reading torah the second. Our second-day service (new last year) is small and intimate, a nice contrast to the grandness of the previous day. I appreciate having both: the majesty of the divine king (and the birthday of the world), and the nearness of the still small voice that's there if we listen.
