It was taught: "that you may love the lord your God and obey his voice and cleave to him" (Deut 30:20); this means you should not study torah in order that you may become a sage, a rabbi, or an elder. Rather, you should learn out of love and honor will come, as it is written: bind them upon your fingers, write them upon the table of your heart (Prov 7:3), and it is also said: her ways are ways of pleasantness (Prov 3:17) and also: she is a tree of life to them that lay hold to her, and happy is everyone who clings to her (Prov 3:18). (62a)

(The "she" in the last two proof-texts is the torah. This passage is part of the service every time we read torah.)
