The rabbi (not mine, but another in the community) sold the donkeys (mom and foal) afterward. Conveniently, the person from whom he'd bought the mother donkey earlier this year was still available. :-) I understand that the kohein sold his ram to her, too.
The kohein could even have converted his sheep into a donkey sold his sheep to the rabbi and bought the rabbi's donkey(s), if they'd wanted. But I think all involved agreed that keeping livestock in Squirrel Hill was probably not a good long-term plan.
