The upcoming end of security updates ought to give the IT folks pause. I could try justifying Win 7 to my management and then not telling IT, maybe. I went down the "formal accommodation" path with a previous employer (at their insistence), and the whole process was frustrating and annoying and kind of embarrassing. It's probably better to stay off the radar of the big company and just work out something within the business unit.
