Yes, this aspect of it is heart-breaking. Because of how they did things, the company created the public perception that "those fanatical trans people bullied SE into this bad change". No, that's not what happened. There might have been some fanatical individuals involved -- I'm not privy to what happened behind the scenes -- but this change harmed the LGBTQ+ community on Stack Exchange. Not only does it not help with their real concerns, but it drew undeserved fire onto all of them. Good people are leaving in fear. (That's just the latest example I've seen; there are others.)
