Filkcast

[personal profile] ericcoleman hosts a weekly filk podcast, FilkCast. He wrote me recently to ask if it was ok to include On the Mark's music. Twist my arm, I said. :-)

Today's episode includes our recording of "Flowers for Algernon", written by Kathy Mar. It also includes one of my favorite Bill Sutton songs, "The Pilot's Eyes", and a bunch of other songs both classic and modern. I'm glad that this music is getting heard beyond filk circles at SF cons, and glad that I got to be a small part of it.

It will be great to hear some of your old recordings. What label were they released under?

Thank you!

I always try to ask with older tapes. Other than the owner of a certain label, everyone has said yes so far.

And I didn't know that was a Kathy song, the notes have been updated!

The only one that I have in physical media is Between The Lines. I try to keep about 10 shows between plays of artists, so it might be a couple months until I play the band again. I do break that rule more often as time goes along.

I try to play a good mix of classic and current Filk whenever possible, with the occasional excursion into Wizard Wrock and Nerdcore.

Yay! I treasure my copy of Among Friends. Thanks for alerting me to this podcast.

OMG yes, I have the link to FilkCast on my phone's home screen. And I was listening to "Flowers for Algernon" and singing it, because I want to learn it. And I've put the link and lyrics in their own purple document on the ColorNote app on my phone: purple because the app lets you choose any of 8 colors along with white for each note, and tag each color with its own label or title, and purple is the color I use for song lyrics and poems.
