Someone on my previous post mentioned pictures, so I'll go ahead and record the starting state of the garden.

I was looking for a decent tomato seedling, but the ones that were container-compatible looked very sad. Then I saw these Roma plants, a little farther along, and the tags said you can grow them in the pots they came in. I'm a little skeptical that the pot is large enough, but I've also never done Romas, so who knows? I'm willing to experiment.

At the other size extreme, that bit of green is supposedly the beginning of a cucumber "bush" that will produce cukes up to 11" long. I don't know if that's going to need a cage -- never grown cukes before.

Sweet red pepper and orange lunchbox pepper:

I grew sweet red peppers in that pot last year and it went pretty well. I know that lunchbox pepper, in addition to having smaller peppers, is a smaller plant. I don't know if it needs more room but that's my next-biggest pot so we'll see.

Mint and basil, and a shadow I wasn't able to do much about:

largish mint and basil plants in two pots side by side, and the shadow of the photographer's head, arm, and camera

There's also a small mint plant (different variety) and chives. I didn't find any Thai basil, but I still have a couple smaller pots so if I do I can add it.

Here's the current lineup (smaller pots will move over the course of the summer to follow the sunny spots):

Cucumbers can be grown along the ground and don't need a trellis. Trellises are nice but if the cucs are really 11", they may not hold on the vine without some support underneath. Everything looks great! -Cyndi
