I learned something new today.

A coworker, in announcing the menu for today's dessert club, said the following: "swing by and join us in a gustatory hosanna". So I wrote back and said "I don't think that word means what you think it means" (referring to "hosanna") and he said "what are you talking about?".

In the ensuing conversation, we discovered that we were both right, sort of. The English "hosanna" means, basically "praise God". However, the Hebrew "hosha na" from which it is clearly derived means "save us". I was familiar with the latter meaning and thus wondered about Matt's commentary on today's food. :-)

Maybe more than you wanted to know, but an interesting read, can be found here.
