Pennsic house

Somebody at Sunday dinner (can't remember who now) asked about the little house I use for Pennsic. Here is a link. The pictures are out of date; we added some decoration this year. I have the new pictures scanned now (yeah, actual film -- no digital camera yet), but I haven't updated the site yet.

Where is Tidewater? (What state?)
Sorry - Tidewater is is Virginia. It's not a city as much as an area that includes Va. Beach, Norfolk and might extend as far North as Williamsburg, but I'm not sure about that. I know about the SCA music opportunities - in fact, I composed a song singing the praises of the cook who judged the begging contest that I won ;-) I think I even remember most of it - the tune wasn't bad - probably stolen from an existing folk song - the rhymes and meter were forced, but fun. I sing w/ a group called Zemer Chai and one of the composers who's works we sing is Rossi. That would definitely fit in w/ the SCA world. It's really gorgeous stuff. Sometimes, I wish there were more hours in the day. :-)

Virginia is part of the kingdom of Atlantia, so that's probably the "-ia" name you were thinking of. (Unless you meant the name of the local group, in which case I have no idea.)

Rossi's music is gorgeous! I've been hoping our choir would sing some of it (to offset all the Xtian stuff). Where did you find sheet music?

Atlantia! That's right. That's what I thought it might be, but I wasn't sure if I was just thinking of Atlantis or something. As for Rossi, you can get the music from Transcontinental Music. Do a catalog search on Rossi. :-)

Wow, that sounds like a great group! I hope I get to hear you some day. (So after 25 years, have you thought about recording?)

heh that's kind of a long story but the nutshell is this. Eleanor, our founder and leader is only NOW after 25 years willing to consider a Zemer Chai recording. It's a lot of work and energy and she's a perfectionist (I say that with love) who believes that groups can "get away with" a lot in a live performance that will never work as a recording since microphones are very unforgiving. She also thinks you can never get as good a performance in a studio as you get live in front of an audience. I hope she takes the plunge. I would SO LOVE to have a professional recording of us and there a lot of patrons out there who want a recording too. I'll be sure to let you know if we make any progress on that front. :-)

There's always the live-recording approach to get away from the studio problem. If you record every show you do (or at least all the ones in good accoustic venues), eventually you'll have enough raw material to pick and choose the best rendition of each of the songs you want to include. (Hint: AFAIK this is how most groups do it; the "live from such-and-such location" style of live recording is the minority approach for really really polished groups.)
