I am new to the ways of USB devices, though I still think it's a documentation failure.

It turns out that when installing the driver, the camera has to be connected and turned on. Never mind that the driver is on a CD and -- in one go-round -- I explicitly navigated to the correct file on that CD. If the camera isn't there, Windows apparently just blows you off and lies about installing the driver.

So I can now download pictures (yay!). It appears that I'm not very good at taking pictures of myself, though, so updated userpics will, for the most part, have to wait a bit. (Arm's length is too close for the flash. Tomorrow perhaps I'll figure out how to use the timer, or go outside if it's sunny.)

That's Embla, the third cat. (The first two are Erik and Baldur, who are litter-mates. I got them as kittens. Embla was about 2 years old when she sauntered into my house several years ago.)

LJ's HTMLification apparently picks up nearby punctuation, and is reading that comma as part of the URL. (It's not.) Delete the comma or use this link.

Click on the pic of Mikey and Browneyes to see a larger view. They are also litter mates and were feral when we found them behind my parents place eleven years ago. We also have a ten year old dog who's not quite as big as Browneyes (the LARGE gray).

How cute!

The calico looks to be a large cat (both long and filled out), unless it's a trick of the camera angle.

My last visit to the vet for check-ups confirmed a fear I was developing: Baldur, the gray and white cat, now weighs as much as the other two put together.

Mikey (the calico) is the same length and height as her brother but he weighs exactly twice as much, she's 8 pounds and he's 16.

Wow, it doesn't look like that from the picture. I guess I assumed that the photo angle was "enhancing" the gray cat (or that a lot of that was fluff).

Erik (the red-head) weighs 9 pounds, same as Embla. (She looks bigger, but that's the long-haired-cat phenomenon at work.) Baldur weighs 18 (oof!).
